Weekend Fun

What a great weekend we had.  Daddy took the girls ALL day on Saturday, as he has been traveling quite a bit lately and was making up for lost time (and giving mommy a break).  Sadly, I have no pictures of the day, but Emma made a list of things to do and they did a lot of them: Science museum, Lunch at Panera, Park, Grocery Shopping, and making dinner and dessert.  Here they are making dinner:

Emma made homemade chicken fingers and a jello mold for dessert.

On Sunday, the girls got a special breakfast.  Mommy and daddy heard about s'more's cakes on a tv show and decided to let the girls try (pancakes with marshmallows and chocolate chips):

They were HUGE fans.
Then the list continued with Lego building.  Emma made an animal garden:

Emma asked daddy to make a big tower:

Then the day continued with some outdoor activities in the warm sun:

Super Emma

Last Friday, in honor of reading month, Emma's school had dress as your favorite super hero or super reader.  We have many costumes, but no super heroes.  So mommy "made" a costume for Emma:

She is Super Emma, cast/brace and all, since she broke her wrist 2 weeks ago!

Hilarity

Mimi and Papa came down for Emma's science fair and then stayed to keep us company while daddy was out of town.  The girls had so much fun playing with them and putting on a "show."

Here is Sarah's ballerina show (she did this for about 30 minutes):

Then Emma did her routine:

Then volunteers were called for.  Mimi was the first victim (turns out she gets dizzy much faster than Sarah):

Papa tried to get in on the act, even going so far as to put on a cape tutu, but he wasn't well received:

Thanks for a great time Mimi and Papa.

Science Fair

Emma had her first school science fair tonight.   Emma picked her own project, Color mixing, and did all of the work herself.  Sadly, daddy couldn't be here for the actual science fair, but he helped Emma get the project ready:

And at the science fair she was lucky enough to present her project to her Principal, Mrs. Fry.  She was able to talk about exactly what she did, and her favorite part, that if you combined more than 2 colors, you ALWAYS got brown.

We are so proud of her!

Science fun

Yesterday was the inaugural Physics and Astronomy Day at our children's science center (Brian's pet project).  It was so much fun.  While daddy had to work the whole day, mommy and the girls spent 6 1/2 hours exploring the fun stuff:

The museum has a new oral health room (not part of Physics day), but it was fun to see the girls with oversized dentist tools.  Here is Sarah brushing and Emma flossing:

And Sarah checking the teeth with the mirror:

Here they are checking out meals to see how good they are for their teeth:

During the day, the MSU Science group ran shows for the kids.  Here was Emma trying to figure out how to do the wave:

One of the kids favorite parts was learning about sound waves to Frozen's "Let it Go."  We had to see the same show twice just to see it again:

Learning about static electricity.  The girls thought it was hysterical for their hair to stand up:

Trying to get aluminum foil boats to float when filled with rocks:

And another favorite, learning about the phases of the moon using oreo cookies:

Sarah spent the most time in the crater table, playing with kinetic sand:

But the girls absolute favorite was the balloon rockets:

Cold day fun

Due to the cold weather (and teacher in services, not to mention President's Day) Emma only had 1 day of school this week.  Needless to say, she is getting a bit antsy at the changed schedule.  So mommy had to get creative with some indoor activities to beat the cold weather blues:

Cake/cupcake decorating.  Emma asked for a heart shaped cake and multi-colored frosting:

Sarah opted for mini-cupcakes and pink and red frosting:

Then we capped off the morning with an indoor picnic:
Not the same as playing with friends or outside, but not a bad morning!

Do you want to build a snowman?

Just in time for winter and lots of snow, Sarah's new favorite song from Frozen is Do You Want to Build a Snowman, which is sings every time she sees a closed door:
